Q: What’s next in online innovation in B.C.?

A: It’s hard to predict the "next big thing." The current trend is quick, mobile, and geo-location. However, no one could predict this. It was just a few years ago that meeting people "from the internet" was taboo and now telling strangers where you are and what you’re doing all day via social networks is the norm. Some of the most-used social media tools started off as ideas that most people thought were crazy. Online innovations grow organically. The most successful didn’t start out with millions of dollars (and still don’t have millions) but they just had grassroots users who boosted the platforms from the ground up. Many of these concepts came from, and continue to stem from, the minds of B.C.-based innovators.

Ventureneer, Message Medium Partner to Uncover Best Online Practices For Segments of Small Business Sector

    Sunday, October 9th, 2011

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 28, 2011

Speak up! Ventureneer and Message Medium?s 2011 best-practices survey wants input from small businesses and nonprofits for their survey Online Marketing Best Practices Among Small Businesses. They need to hear from business owners and nonprofit leaders about what works and what doesn?t for different kinds of organizations.

This isn?t just about social media. If a business uses an enewsletter or social media, Ventureneer and Message Medium want to know how it?s going. Online media, from search engine optimization to Twitter, are interconnected and synergistic. The best results are generated by the right mix, not by a narrow focus on one medium.

The culture, products, size, and mission of a small business affects decisions about media mix as well so the survey report will break down what works well by segments such as women-owned businesses, minority-owned businesses, nonprofits, and socially responsible businesses (an important and growing small business sector).

The report will show small businesses how others like them make online marketing work. It will also show them what doesn?t work in their market segment, saving them time and money when putting together their marketing plan.

?We are gathering comprehensive data to generate comprehensive best practices, guidelines that will be meaningful to businesses of all kinds,? said Geri Stengel, founder of Ventureneer.

?We are looking at segments of the small business sector. We know what works for one may not work for all. We want specific answers for each segment,? said Maisha Walker, principal of Message Medium.

To make the data meaningful, Ventureneer and Message Medium want to hear from all categories of small businesses, those who use social media and those who don?t as well as those who use other online marketing tactics, such as email and search engine optimization.

Last year, Ventureneer?s survey Use and Best Practices of Social Media Among Nonprofits, generated free ebooks, blogs, and trainings for nonprofit leaders that helped nonprofits take charge of social media. This year?s survey will add to that, with resources and training to help small businesses and nonprofits use the synergy between online marketing and social media.

The 2011 survey, Online Marketing Best Practices Among Small Businesses, will be conducted in partnership with Message Medium (owned by Inc. magazine?s most popular blogger, Maisha Walker).

The results will answer the most pressing questions small businesses and nonprofits have about online marketing and social media. We will find out:

the best ways for management to learn the why?s and staff to learn the how to?s of online marketing
what should be measured to determine the ROI for online marketing campaigns
how much time it takes to make social media and online marketing effective
how to increase efficiency when using social media
if effective use of online media increases revenue
if best practices are the same across all segments of the small business sector
if and how the culture of an organization is affected by using social media
how online marketing and social media are best integrated.

From the survey results, Ventureneer and Message Medium will develop jargon-free, best practices for small businesses and nonprofits using online marketing. The report will include guidelines for integrating online marketing tools as well as examples of what works and why. The report will be downloadable at no cost.

Examples of success stories will come from those who take the survey. It is an opportunity for small businesses to get media attention for their hard work. Those who participate in the survey will also receive a sneak peak at the report before it is released to the general public.

The survey will open on July 28, 2011 and close on August 19, 2011. To participate, go to Online Marketing Best Practices Among Small Businesses. Everyone can be part of this collaborative effort to find out what works and what doesn?t in online marketing. Experience, good or bad, will help ferret out best practices and pitfalls to avoid.

Geri Stengel is founder of Ventureneer, an online education and peer support service for values-driven small business owners. She honed her online expertise at companies like Dow Jones and Physicians? Online and co-founded the Women?s Leadership Exchange. Geri is president of Stengel Solutions, a consulting service for social-impact organizations. She has taught university-level classes and is a Kauffman FastTrac facilitator in entrepreneurship. She has been nationally recognized for her achievements in small business development and nonprofit guidance.

Maisha Walker is founder and president of Message Medium, a website design and Internet strategy firm. Message Medium shows small business owners how to harness the power of the Internet and create dynamic and profitable brands online. She has been building websites and online communities for more than 14 years. Maisha is a featured online columnist with Inc. Magazine and her blog is now the most popular on that site. Excellent Small Business Ideas- Success Assured

    Article by Sharon Pearson

With the recent upsurge in tug of wars in between huge firms, the financial system is working hard to save the rope from tearing apart. If people do not have the money to purchase goods, the company will fall apart and so will the tug of war! Getting to the top requires time, patience and consistency. No one began a big business altogether; they began out small and adopted certain small business ideas. They had mentors and good friends and took help from other experts time to time. Success comes at a great price, be certain you are ready to pay for it!

As a result of the recent declines in the financial system, some small businesses suffered a lot. Few were even removed from the market. Although there are strategies to keep your company running, a wise entrepreneur should always be equipped for surprises. Some of the effective small business ideas include:

    1. Small workforce: Your business is referred as small for a reason. Don’t primarily intake several employees, start with some and see how many you need. Based on the average assignments you get and your yearly profit, a mentor can advise you on the number of employees you require. Also, administration is an element with such a great workforce. If they aren’t managed well, they might not be functioning appropriately or to their complete potential. So until and unless you truly require human labor, do not just hire them and have them sitting idle. This is one of the crucial small business ideas.

    2. Machinery: Unless and until you are pretty certain that you need automation and machinery, do not jump for them; they are expensive and can increase the initial expense of your business. A business mentor can advise you about purchasing machinery relying on your assignments and number of workers. Only buying machinery is not adequate, make sure they are paying you a great deal more than they ask! One example of a small business needing mass production is the order fulfillment and packaging company.

    3. Ask for help: When things are not working very well, don’t be apprehensive, ask for help from the experts. Yes they will cost you a pretty good amount but they can assist you in the long run. Mentors and business experts are those people who have been in the circumstances you have been and overcame the hurdles effectively. They not just have experience in your area but can advise certain strategies and approaches that may help you instantly.

One benefit of small business is that your expenses are low, so maintain that! With a small business, you have more chance of finding out than implementing. Grow bigger with your small business ideas, do not diminish back!

Fear My Design Announces New Small Business Marketing Disconnects

    Thursday, September 29th, 2011

    (PRWEB) September 20, 2011

Small business marketing website blog has just released another helpful article for small business owners explaining some of the disconnects that exist in the day to day traditional marketing techniques.

Advertising is an intriguing topic that interests most entrepreneurs. What would you think about placing advertising on a restaurant menu? Fear My Design ran into this by accident and discusses the pros and cons of this unique technique. It would be very hard to measure the actual effectiveness of this type of advertising, but it is certainly clear that it has to be relevant to some extent. It can create a huge disconnect if not done correctly. You must really get into the minds of the clients or customers eating at the restaurant.

Fear My Design was able to find a huge disconnect between the exact mood of the client while sitting at the table and thinking about what to eat, while being exposed to all this advertisement. “The problem I found with this particular menu and it?s advertisements, was the fact that they were promoting completely irrelevant things in my opinion, thus creating a complete disconnect and creating a sort of like ?what the hell is this? skip? attitude!” says website admin writer Rod.

Every business owner loves the topic of marketing, and always looking for new innovative ways to market their business. Fear My Design has gone out to find existing ideas and generate innovative ways to make use of them.

Fear My Design is website blog started by Rodrigo Olivares – owner of iLean Solutions – to teach and share everything that involves growing a small business on a regular basis, with real day to day life experiences. It is determined to help other start-up and small business owners capture the essence of online marketing and operating their business in this tough economy.

Q&A: Any books on small business ideas?

    Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Question by BusinessFreak: Any books on small business ideas?
Any books on small business ideas?

I have read 101 small business idea under $ 5000, Small Business for Dummies, etc. I am not looking for books on small business operation. I thought a lot, but cant figure out what business to start. I have little or no capital, location is Bangladesh. I thought of tutoring, but I would like to know a book, that would help with giving me ideas.

    Best answer:

    Answer by Camel Jockey
In my personal opinion, the secret does not lie in books. Yes, they do give ideas and the other thing is you have to buy them, if you want something to give many ideas, look at “The Entrepreneur” or “Small Business” magazines, they are full of various ideas.

I think you should rather ask yourself what it is that you like to do. What is the use [and this is my opinions] that you have the desire to own or run a business, and you end up doing something you dislike because you believe it makes money? There is no sense in that. If you read a little like the books of Sir Richard Brandson and those guys, they all say to do what it is you love.

Maybe think amongst those lines for a bit, search the internet little more and see where it takes you.

    Best of luck!!

Redundancies and innovation drive small business startups

    Sunday, August 14th, 2011

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 22 June 2011

With unemployment rates at 7.7% in the U.K., new research by specialist business insurer Hiscox has found that 17% of small businesses were established following a redundancy, demonstrating an opportunity in adversity. It also found the majority of startups are not original ideas, but are based on new approaches to existing businesses.

    Key findings from the research:

???????? Being your own boss and living the dream: Almost half (48%) of small business owners cited either being their own boss or living their dream as the reason for taking the risk and starting their own business, with 28% wanting to be their own boss and 20% wanting to live their dream.
???????? Not new, just better executed: 77% of small business owners and operators surveyed said that their business idea was not new, but an improvement on existing offerings. Almost half (47%) reported that offering a higher quality of service or product than their competition was their key differentiator – rather than lower prices. A further 22% differentiate themselves by investing time in meeting face-to-face with clients. However, for startups there was a low investment in R&D (5%) and even less in marketing (2%).
???????? Million dollar idea: Almost a quarter (22%) believed they had a ‘million dollar’ idea when founding their business. After taking the leap, nearly two-thirds (61%) now feel confident or very confident that their business is indeed the ‘million dollar’ idea.

?Our research shows that entrepreneurs are starting businesses to take control of their future, whether they have experienced a redundancy or want to pursue their dreams. They don?t always need to reinvent the wheel, but offer a fresh perspective on an existing idea ? it?s often about hard graft and differentiating yourself from the competition,? said Alan Thomas, small business insurance expert at Hiscox.

?Starting up can be daunting, but if you work hard, understand your risks and keep your self-belief, you can succeed. When it comes to risks, it is important that small business owners use proper planning to protect their million dollar idea while they grow their businesses.?

    Kinosaki
    small business ideas
For the second time in the past twelve months (in April 2003) I was visiting my son who was living and teaching in Kyoto, Japan. This time my wife stayed home and so it was just the two of us. After spending the first night in Kyoto following my flight from Washington, DC, we took the JR train to Kinosaki, one of Japan’s Onsen towns near the Sea Of Japan about a 2 1/2 hour train ride from Kyoto.

Once we checked into our ryokan, we changed into Yukatas, the traditional Japanese robe, an outer jacket called a Tanzen, and a vest. Our maid showed us how to wear them but I got the order confused and when we got to the lobby, the owner and maid both undid what I had done and re-dressed me. Apparently my approach is what is done when dressing for a funeral. Each Ryokan in Kinosaki has its own distinctively designed Yukata, which can be seen as you walk through the streets of the town. At first we thought we were the only ones venturing outside dressed in costume, but soon found it was de rigueur, and even though we are both over 6′ 4", we set out confidently. Not us, but everyone else wore getas, the Japanese wooden clog shoes. There are seven public baths in town and the idea of Kinosaki is to get to as many as you can during your stay.

We went to the Kauno-yu bath. It had both indoor and outdoor bathing areas. After showering we started with the inside bath and then moved into the outside one where the air was cooler and not steamy. But there were too many bugs for me and I went back inside. I was comfortable (having learned to enjoy Japanese baths last fall) and stayed immersed up to my neck (showing that gaijin could stand the hot water, or so I thought) longer than I should have. I felt fine in the water, but when I started to get up my balance was tenuous and I was having trouble lifting my leg up to the ledge so that I could climb out. I remember feeling that I wanted to go to sleep and may have passed out for a moment as I fell along the side of the bath. Joseph was there to catch me. I heard him yell, “get an ambulance” and apparently a number of people rushed to my side. One bather spoke English and helped communication. I stayed prone on the side of the bath, with towels as pillows, and with a few draped over my naked body. So much for demonstrating impressive gaijin bath behavior. I was awake through it all and could only think I was going to miss dinner. Finally, I was able to get up with help, got dressed, and we took a cab the few blocks back to the Ryokan. Despite the ignominy, I was fine. I even got the courage to visit another bath before we left and survived without spectacle.

The next day we went for a walk around town. It is charming and very pedestrian friendly. It is built on both sides of a narrow river with the bath houses located in different sections of town, each one with its own special characteristics. We thought we could walk along the main river, which is just outside the center of town, but could hardly see it as it is separated from town by the railroad tracks that run along the river. The parts of the river we could see were attractive – surrounding mountains and nice views. But all too typically, there were small businesses and run down shacks along the shore. The town itself ignores the main river. Instead it is built around a small stream off the big river, with trees and the inevitable concrete along the banks. It is a pretty town but ignores what should have been a magnificent setting.

    Streetcar Future
    small business ideas
This street will soon have a street car running on the curb lane. They will remove the parking. The apprimately 6.5 foot wide sidewalks will not be widened. In my opinion, there are better ways to introduce streetcar to this road.

My concern is the current cross-section will place cramped pedestrians too close to moving trains, will place tracks in the far right lane where people are most likely to ride bikes, and will strip parking used by the small businesses on the left side of the frame.

My idea? Parking protected bike lane on the curb with island transit stops for the streetcar.

March 8th 2008 – Humiliation Come In Size Small

Okay… so… I’ve never really owned a suit before. One would think it’s because I’m just a "Jeans and T-Shirt" guy, and one would be partially correct, but it’s not the full story.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a really small guy. It’s something that really kind of haunts me on a day to day basis. I’m the only guy I’ve ever heard of that’s 110 lbs. I have an incredibly small frame and It makes it really tough to find clothes to fit me properly. Especially if I have to buy those clothes from the mens department.

But I needed a suit for our wedding and I wanted something that I could walk away with afterwards and wear for business occasions and other events. We had just done a commercial for a suit company and thought that it might be a good idea to start there.

    It wasn’t.

The lady there was friendly, but I don’t think she really understood what a suit is supposed to look like on a man. She kept picking suits many sizes to big for me… jackets that made me look like David Byrne from that video "Letting the Days Go By" (where he had on a GIANT suit). It was not good. But it wasn’t all her fault, they really didn’t have my size.

So then we went to Burlington Coat Factory. Again, they started at two sizes above my size. I then decided to take a trip over to the boys section… where they had coats to fit me. I tried on one to show Tam. She seemed really embarassed to be with me trying on a suit jacket in the little boys section and frankly… I was even more embarassed. The jackets fit, but they were clearly made of quality material… I mean, you don’t need suit for a growing kid to last more than a couple of wear cycles.

So needless to say I was very frustrated. After that we decided to try one more place and we headed over to Men’s Warehouse

I was delighted to find that after just a minute of being in the store and having someone actually measure me, they found a splendid coat for me. Before long I had jacket, pants, shoes, vest and tie… but then we ran into a snag.

    The shirt.

They didn’t have a shirt to fit my neck size and couldn’t order one for me. But that was okay right… I’d find a shirt somewhere else. So we paid more than I had ever paid for an outfit before in my life and left to find me a shirt.

We spent about three more hours looking through the men’s section in many stores only to find that they all started a size and half to big for me. Frustrated, I headed to the JCPenny’s boys section and began to look through thier dress shirts. The worst part was having to unpack them from these little bags and try them on. Little boys looked shocked to see me in their dressing rooms. I was humiliated. But after a trying on about 3 shirts, I found a shirt that fit my neck. One size down would’ve fit my neck better, but the sleeves were too short.

After all that, the worst part about it was that it came with this tiny little clip on tie.

    I was not amused.

Helvetica. There’s an upcoming movie, I don’t know if you’ve heard.

So I’ve been doing this for three weeks, and the trend seems to be this: designers will play with lowercase letters, kerning and stroke width when the typeface is sans-serif, and the kinds of places that do this kind of playing are a) small businesses eager to seem modern and hip, b) big old stodgy companies eager to seem modern and hip. I never see pubs and bars with one-word all lowercase Futura or Helvetica. Clubs, yes, but never pubs.

Pubs are all gold wood-cut serifs set on a black field. I will take a few shots of those just so you get an idea.

Coming up soonish: major UK chains and their uses of type, and Holiday type.

Execute your best small business ideas

    Article by ove nordkvist

Is it possible to activate your best small business ideas in no time and totally effortless? Of course it’s not! To start and develop a small business from scratch, will take time, effort and some of your money.

Their is an old story that goes: after one of Ludwig van Beethoven’s performances, many people from the audience were paying him their ovations, one woman commented, I wish I would have been born with such genius. Beethoven replied : It isn’t genius, madam, nor is it magic. All you have to do is practice on your piano eight hours a day for 40 years.

That’s not what most people want to hear. The majority of all people would prefer to buy the magazine with headlines like, -loose Weight, eat as you do now-, in the hopes of finding a quick and easy solution before the upcoming class reunion, rather than start an exercise and diet program.

For most people it’s more tempting to check out a seminar promising, -become a millionaire within months-, than it is to start a debt reduction, monthly savings plan. And they’d take their chances with a weekly lottery ticket, rather than investigate their best small business ideas.

We live in an instant messaging, plug and play fast forwarding world. Without any deeper thoughts, we bring that instant rewarding model into our business situation. We have little or none patience for the small business ideas that doesn’t produce an immediate return.

We don’t want to learn how to do something anymore, we just want to be able to do it. We don’t want to just make decent money, we want the jackpot. We want to master money and success. And we want it now.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as an apprentice show in the small business world, where a few weeks of exercises and projects makes you a six figure earner. The only way you can win, in the best small business ideas lottery is to, first realize that it will take time, effort and some of your money. And then do what it takes, with persistence and a positive attitude.

People who are successful with their best small business ideas, know that. They know they’re not instantly gonna get their dreams fulfilled. They know that the future is in their own hands.

To build a business, is similar to build a house, stone by stone, step by step. It will take time, use that time wisely.

If you want to be successful, you need to practice and develop your skills. If you don’t, you will remain a tourist in the small business world.Do, instead of think about doing. Achieve your goals, do not contemplate them. Execute your best small business ideas, instead of talking about them. Step out of your comfort zone, to do things and learn from it. Don’t stay in your mind numbing enclosure.

Bet on yourself by nourishing your talents through work and efforts, learn from Beethoven, that’s the only magic there is.

    Cool Small Business Ideas images

Check out these small business ideas images:

    speech
    small business ideas
this was #9 (persuade). It was on microfinance, and how it’s possible to make a huge difference to someone’s life with as little as through a microcredit organization such as kiva.

Here are my notes for the speech so you can read them:

    World bank:
    extreme poverty /day
    moderate poverty /day

3.8 billion people live on less than a day

these people are poor for a myriad of reasons which are not their fault
    deficiencies in public administration
    failures of their environment
    overpopulation
    disease
whatever the reason, they are unable to thrive

what have you done to help?

    give money to charities..
and when you do, do you pay attention to what percentage of your donation goes to helping people
when you give to charities do you know who’s life you’ve changed?

    aid can do good
but specifically in africa, despite the billions of dollars poured in to the continent, of people in extreme poverty is increasing
increasing aid increases dependency on aid as free goods flood the market and put local merchants out of business
if you’re given everything, how much incentive do you have to become self reliant?

just after the new year, i got an email saying that manuella had finished paying back her loan
manuella enterprising woman who raised money for her current store by giving massages and manicures
now she sells school supplies and she had just paid back a loan to buy a photocopier which will expand her business

I was impressed by how she bootstrapped
and so when I found her profile on kiva, I lent her part of what she was asking for
32 other people also contributed to her loan
which was then distributed by one of kiva’s field partners in ecuador

kiva is a person to person microlending organization
    0,000 loaned
    to 2026 entrepreurs

i went back to kiva and started looking at other available loans
    i lent to
safina in tanzania who works 10 hour days to make /mo expand her business selling cloth
sun chrip, mother of 4 in cambodia build a roof and a sturdy wall so that her house wouldn’t leak.

loans are few hundred to 1000, many people contribute to one loan
small sums would never be lent by a normal bank
and because the borrowers have no credit
because the administrative costs outweigh the interest on the loan

    first microfinance bank
Grameen bank started by Muhammad Yunus as a research project to test this method for providing credit and banking services to the rural poor
grameen means ‘of the village’, so this is is a bank of, for and by the people
aim to lend to the poorest of the poor

    it was wildly successful
In 2006, Yunus and the Grameen bank were jointly awarded the nobel peace prize
for their efforts to create economic and social development from below.

Lasting peace can not be achieved unless large population groups find ways in which to break out of poverty.

That vision can not be realised by means of micro-credit alone. But Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank have shown that, in the continuing efforts to achieve it, micro-credit must play a major part."

why does microlending work so well

    targeting women
more likely to spend money on improving their family and children
than to spend it on themselves
raises socio economic status gives them power

    2nd innovation
    group lending
group not responsible for the loan
but will not receive another loan if any of the members defaults
encourages others to fill in, and to help each other make payments
borrowers have better information about each other than the bank, credit
    support group, community, business ideas

traditional aid doesn’t have the power to affect people at this level
    loans are small
and have tremendous potential to affect the lives of the recipients

who has become rich from receiving handouts?
prosperity is the result of opportunity and effort
microlending gives the opportunity and allows people to
to provide services and gain esteem in their community
    to gain skills
build their own future, to become self reliant

the next time you want to give money, take a minute to consider WHO you are giving it to.

I went to the flea market this morning ! I got 4 photo albums (strong black paper, should be nice to put colorful photos on top and comment in white), a form to make 6 muffins, but my best buy is really this pot !

I saw it, and thought it looked great ! I asked the guy how much it was. "What would you say ?" — he answered. I thought, and had no idea, so I said just that. Then he thought for a while. And said 50 cents. I didn’t hesitate a second !! Hehe I’m so happy now :D

(He said something like he had done some good business today, so he was happy to sell it to me for a good price :)

Small Business Ideas for Working at Home

    Article by Abigail Franks

Almost everyone it seems thinks that working from home is a great goal. This is very true, if you have the discipline to stay focused without constant supervision. There are literally thousands of small business ideas with many that would allow you to work from home. Here are a few things to consider before you quit your job and follow your dream

FIND WHAT YOU LOVE TO DOThe key to any successful small business is to understand the market and your own personal talents. It doesn’t matter that some businesses may offer more money. If you don’t love the work, you won’t be willing to make the effort necessary to be successful in any small business. Unlike corporate America, and small business is a lot like a small child. Both will depend on you and your decisions to help them grow and stay healthy

DECIDE WHAT IS SUCCESSThe definition of success is different, for many of us. For some it’s loads of money in the bank. While for others it’s having more time to spend with family and friends. Only you can decide how much money is enough.

For some, a successful small business might generate enough money to let a spouse stay home or go to school. It may be a way to save more money so you can retire at a much earlier age.

FIND A NICHE AND FILL ITYou’ve probably heard many people suggest that you find a niche. A niche is simply a small part of the market that isn’t being serviced now. Realize that the growth of the Web itself has been a phenomenon driven by entrepreneurs like yourself who want their own small business. We’re not just talking Web businesses however is there are many home-based business opportunities that will allow you to work from home and make a full-time income.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX:while many people dreaming of their own small business will look to standard small-business opportunities. The trick is to find a unique way to develop that business idea. Consider a hairdresser. If your talent is cutting and styling hair, most hairdressers looking for a small business opportunity may rent their own styling chair in an established salon. Thinking outside the box, that same hairdresser could offer in-home haircare to senior citizens who may have a difficult time driving themselves to a typical brick-and-mortar business.

Spend some time developing these four points, and you will find that there are hundreds of small business ideas that fit perfectly with your talents and abilities. Everyone has a set of skills. All you need to do is:

    1. Find out what you love to do2. Understand your definition of success3. Figure out how you can put your skills to use in the marketplace4. Offer your services were skills to the market in a unique way

The result will be a strong desire to leave your job to follow your dream of your very own small business idea.

    Monday, April 4th, 2011

question by Billy K : How much is a small online retail business to start
Please ONLY answer if you have an online business. Basically I just need to know what an average monthly price is for a site that can support a business and have enough bandwidth, without the slow practice. Also, if you have any suggestions for where I for my domain, which would have great host. Finally, if you have started and online stock trading you a few tips that could help my efforts best answer.

    reply Jade S

I run 5 websites (not retail themselves). I can only say that this is a difficult question to answer. It is clear that overstock.com expensive to run than joesglass.com. I personally use bluehost.com for hosting, so my monthly cost is under $ 10 for all 5 areas (non-retail-yourself …). I see everything from 8k to 20k visitors per month, with no speed problems. You should probably look at some e-commerece software solutions as follows: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ecommerce/Es resemble their starter kit is about $ 40/month and its scalable event that your business grows unexpectedly.

Every twentieth person in this world is a potential entrepreneur. However, each contractor is not talented. There are many entrepreneurs on the market that are in this area because they are forced by someone or was it the only option. There are many excellent professionals who are perfectly equipped and know how best to carry out their work. But many of them do not get their chance for the world what they are able to show. It is not because they are not obliged to. They try their best to the world their potential, and they may succeed in their attempts if they were real possibilities. Small Business in Canada is the same as all over the world, including equal opportunities and obligations. The central dilemma for small businesses in Canada is the same as well, so brilliant idea to help you, your competitors. One most important thing is the idea of ??a jet over the Canadian small business that you would not find particularly from competition more. You just have to keep all necessary information to date and in order, and start your business idea. There is basically a win-win way to ensure that your small home business Canada has success, however small a degree, but still a success. They are required to be placed in all your best start, but then never assume that this is an acronym, but simply a review of a potentially life-changing decision you make, either, or have done and am only looking for information. is to start

They are rich, can afford to take chances, or are you more cautious players will only play on the lawn, where they are most familiar with the trend. If you are the last thing you should just stop at a new idea altogether. You can start working for a company already working online, and move your way up to her. In the meantime, you can even learn enough to start a business, all your own.

If the former, but you can be in an emergency, as new ideas are more likely to get heavy. The appeal of such an activity is that these companies are actually damaging if they succeed, the size of profits is often far surpasses even the creator of dreams. So if you are a dreamer, you can start looking for just such lots from you in an entirely new idea. You can also just follow a few other small Canadian headquarters numbers to a much safer choice, but if the chances of a dazzling success relatively low since you’re already on competition. Lighting provided by one White Lighting X1600 to camera right difused through a large softbox, with Westcott 42" Silver reflector to camera right to just bring in some fill light. A short roll of White Savage Seamless just hanging off the knuckle arm of an Avenger C-Stand (easier and quicker than getting out a big background stand). Triggered by a good ole-fashioned sync cable connected to a Nikon AS-15 on the hot shoe since the RebelXT/350D lacks a PC Sync connector.

    Alaska’s Sarah Palin, by RR
    small business ideas
    Alaska’s Culture of my Corruption

Frost Park Chalk Challenge No. 21

What follows is an open letter written by a resident of Wasilla, Alaska named Anne Kilkenny.

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because she is a “babe”.

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for seven months. She is “pro-life”. She recently gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby. She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn’t take positions; she just “puts things out there” and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit. Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans. Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters. She’s smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents. During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. m for a park. m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for .5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once. These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city. As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today’s surplus, borrow for needs.

She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideasor compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the basis of who proposed them.

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin’s attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.

Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club” when she first ran for Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of “old boys”. Palin fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal–loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated” her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska’s top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it’s pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn’t fire her sister’s ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’t like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid 2,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on the job.

In a gutsy move which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the “old boys’ club” when she dramatically quit, exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined).

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge to nowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.

As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative action restored most of these projects–which had been vetoed simply because she was not aware of their importance–but with the unobservant she had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”.

She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a fiscal conservative.

Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah.

They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah’s mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.

As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package of legislation known as “AGIA” that forced the oil companies to march to the beat of her drum.

Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked toglobal warming. She campaigned “as a private citizen” against a state initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’s lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polar bears as threatened species.

McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a heartbeat away from being President. There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more knowledgeable and experienced than she. However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and are regretting it.

    CLAIM VS FACT

•“Hockey mom”: true for a few years
•“PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since
    •“NRA supporter”: absolutely true
•social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.
•“Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation
•“Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.
    •political maverick: not at all
    •gutsy: absolutely!
•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.
•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.
•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents
•pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla’s history.
•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro-union.

    WHY AM I WRITING THIS?

First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny + Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local government, education, and PTA/parent organizations.

Secondly, I’ve always operated in the belief that “Bad things happen when good people stay silent”. Few people know as much as I do because few have gone to as many City Council meetings.

Third, I am just a housewife. I don’t have a job she can bump me out of. I don’t belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will cost me somehow in the future: that’s life.

Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100 or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah’s attempt at censorship.

Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.

    CAVEATS

I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor) from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of Wasilla, and I can’t recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible for a private person to get any info out of City Hall–they are swamped. So I can’t verify my numbers.

You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the population of Wasilla, ranging from my “about 5,000?, up to 9,000. The day Palin’s selection was announced a city official told me that the current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was 5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to 2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90’s.

I’ve never posted an after shot of my office. It’s a tiny room, and I have a lot of books and craft supplies, so storage solutions are the primary concern.

I apologize for the general crappiness of this photo – I took it with my new pocket digital because it shoots wide angle, but I’m still not happy with this camera.

The conservatives can rejoice that they will compensate for the expected vote today with a great victory in November elections in 2010. But: (a) It is a good bet that conservative overoptimistic November is – so economy will have improved, and the immediate delights in the health care bill will reach key voting blocks (2) So what.? Legislative majority come and go. Healthcare is eternal. A victory in November is a very poor substitute for this failure to kaufen. So far, I think a lot of conservatives would agree with me. Now comes the hard lesson: Much of the blame for the current disaster attaches conservatives and Republicans uns.Am beginning of this process, we have a strategic choice: unlike, say that the Democrats in 2001, when President Bush’s the first tax cut proposed, we would not deal with administration. No negotiation, no compromise, nothing. We were all balls. That would be Obama’s Waterloo – like the Clinton health care was 1994.Nur hawks overlooked a few important facts: Obama was not with 53% of the vote, Clinton 42% elected. The liberal bloc of the Democratic Congressional Caucus is bigger and stronger than it was in 1993-94. And of course, think the Democrats also because its history and also the consequences of the 1994 Scheitern.Dieses time we went after all the bullets we had reached an agreement with keiner.Konnte? Who knows? But we know that the difference between this plan and traditional Republican ideas are very large. Obama plan has a broad similarity with Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts plan. It builds on ideas at the Heritage Foundation in the early 1990s, formed the basis for Republican counterproposal of Clinton Care in 1993-1994 entwickelt.Barack Obama necessarily Republican votes for his plan. Could we leveraged his desire to make the plan more closely with conservative views? To finance without redistribution taxes on productive enterprises – without weighing so heavily on small businesses – without Medicaid expansion? Too late. They are all illusions Gesetz.Keine note: This bill will not be lifted. Although Republicans have in 1994-style landslide in november, how many votes we can muster reopen the “donut hole” and invite more seniors for prescription drugs? How many votes again to cancel the insurance if they see any pre-existing condition? How many votes to ban 25-year-olds from their parents’ insurance? And even when the votes were – President Obama will sign a waiver, we of the most radical voices in the party and followed the movement, and they led us to abject defeat and irreparable. There were leaders who knew better, who would have liked a lot. But they were caught. Conservative rapporteur on Fox and talk radio had the Republican base vote in such a frenzy that was impossible to make-whipped. How do you handle someone who wants to kill your grandmother negotiate? Or – more accurately – to believe that with someone you have been convinced voters, the murder of her grandmother I’m on a soap box for several months about the damage that our super-heated debate, we were there. Yes, it mobilized supporters – but by mobilizing them with hysterical accusations and pseudo-information is overheated discussion made it impossible for representatives to represent and lead the elected politicians. The real leaders are on television and radio, and they have very different needs of people in government. Talk Radio thrives on confrontation and recriminations. If Rush Limbaugh said he did not want President Obama that he was intelligent explains his own interests. What he failed to say – but what is equally true – is that he wants Republicans to fail. If Republicans succeed – if they govern successfully in office and to negotiate attractive trade-offs out of office – Rush’s listeners are less angry. And if they are less angry, they listen to the radio less and less heard ads for Sleep Number Betten. Also day defeat to the free market economy and Republican values ??are a great asset to the conservative entertainment industry. Your listeners and viewers are now even more angry, more frustrated, more disappointed with all except the responsibility for free talkers on television and radio. For them it is mission accomplished. For because they purport to represent, it’s okay Waterloo: our

We need to create small businesses within the hospitality business, so can you please help me with ideas? I have absolutely no ideas at all.

    Answer by Stephanie
Hospitality is catering, accommodations or entertainment. Try interesting combinations of subjects and hospitality to come up with ideas. Since I assume you’re a college student, I’ll use that for inspiration.

    How about…

    - Hangover Catering: a business that provides Gatorade, pizza and Tylenol to hungover college students.

    - Pet-Lover Entertainment: a business that rents or sells products for pets to hotel guests who have dogs or cats traveling with them.

    - Freshman Welcome Services – a business that provides all the items, information and advice you can’t get from the college.
