Why do people want to start a work at home business? When asked, people will talk about making money, boot the boss, more time with the family, improved life quality, the chance to travel…

However, if we study the list in detail there is one theme that underlies all the specific items on the list. There is one reason why people start a work at home business, they are really looking for…freedom!

That’s what it boils down to, No one boss you around anymore. No alarm clock for your never ending 9 to 5 cycle. No more sorry kids we can’t go to Disneyland because we are short of money. Or not being able to go to the ballgame, or the class play because you’ve got to work.

Some people may think it’s all about the money

But when you got honest answers from people, you will find that the majority are happy to make the same as they do from regular jobs. We just want to ditch the boss, the alarm clock, the coat and tie, the uncomfortable shoes, some unpleasant customers, and the fear of life just passing by.

It is great! I have this life, and the main reason it’s fantastic, is freedom! I do what I want or need on my todo list,I don’t ask permission or worry about what will happen with my paycheck if I stop early today…and maybe take a day off tomorrow.

Yes freedom really make life better, it is real, I revel in it, but let me give you the full picture here

Success is dependent on preparation, and you have to be persistent with your efforts to maintain your work at home business. If you stop early some day or take a few days of, at some point, you have to take the responsibility for your work at home business.

In other words, you have to do what it takes to make your business a success. You have to do all the things your boss would have told you to do. Now you have to do them yourself, you are the boss! And the secretary, and the sales man, and the receptionist, and…..

But hey! you can pack your PC and work from wherever you want. Yeah you’ve got freedom, but you have a business to think of too. So you’ll need a room with ocean view and high-speed Internet…..

The secret of successful small business ideas is to get started. The secret of getting started is to divide your goal into small easy achievable goals. After that, just start with the first one.

There are so many people who want their own small business, that never even get started. They postpone the first step, “I start tomorrow”, tomorrow never comes. A great part of them do all the necessary research, and then do nothing. There is a syndrome called prepare itis, that holds back many people from realizing their small business ideas.

In spite of all preparation, there is something that prevent these people from take action. Fear is a big factor that prevent new entrepreneurs to take the first step To start your own small business is a big step into the unknown. You might fear to try. And you may fear a failure. Or maybe you fear ridicule.

You’ll need a lot of courage to start your own small business. You’re moving away from your secured life of a predictable nine to five work. You are moving into a life of new practices and terminology, things you have no experience of.

You take the risk of failing, you might not make any money. Or worse you might loose money. There is also a risk of ridicule from friends and family. They don’t understand why you want to build a small business of your own.

What’s the biggest obstacle for realizing small business ideas?

For most people it is the huge amount of work before the business is up and running. Once you’ve decided to start your own small business, the tasks may look like an unclimbable mountain. You look at the tasks that you believe have to be done to get your business started. These tasks piles up, and seems like a wall between you and your small business ideas. How to force The Wall?

You need to break down the wall piece by piece. Take one piece at the time from the wall, do what you have to do with that piece, and then store it as a completed piece. Just focus at one piece at the time, don’t look at the full wall.Take notice of how easy it is to handle this little piece. Soon you will see that your pile of stored completed pieces is bigger than the wall. You’re able to see your goal through the wall.

By dividing a big difficult task into small easy tasks, you will be able to conquer the beast. As you complete more and more tasks, you’ll realize something incredible…Your small business is up and running.

Let’s get started

Find a comfortable spot. Have a look at the beast you want to conquer. Write down step by step what you need to do. Divide as much as you can. Create your To Do list. Start every day by check the first unfinished task on the list, complete it, and cross it out. Each crossed out task is a psychological victory. Every completed task is a piece from the wall.

By accomplish one task at the time, you will be successful with your small business ideas. Keep in mind that you have to give yourself and your business some time to grow. To become a wealthy small business entrepreneur is not achieved over night.

Once you have decided to start a craft business, your best chance is to start part-time while you are still earning a full time income from your day job. If you start part time you will play it safe and you will keep your start up costs at a reasonable level. You’ll just take your favorite hobby as your business base and grow from there.

And if this really is what you want to do, you have a great chance of success.

Who knows where you’ll be, 2 or 3 years down the road. Maybe you can tell your present boss what you really think he can do with that job.

To develop your craft business from what at present is your hobby, has many benefits

when you start your craft business from something you really love, you will create a situation for yourself, where you can’t wait to get to work everyday. And this can of course only be beneficial for the business. It will make it easier to breeze through the hard times and the bumps of your small business ideas. Those people who choose small business ideas from the list of hobbies or interests have a much greater success ratio.

It is a very big difference to work with something you enjoy

We all know the feeling of doing a job that we hate to do. With a job you dislike there is no way you can give it 100% of your creativity, passion or persistence. You just want to get done with it as quickly as possible. That’s why it is so very important that you love the product or service you choose, to build your craft business around.

How to get exposure for your craft business

We all have a circle of friends, either socially or at work.

Of course you don’t want to impose on their friendship by making a hard sell, but you can display your crafts in front of your friends, to see if they are interested in your work. If they show interest and if your stuff is priced right, you’ve made the first step towards your craft business.

Your circle of friends market will extend to friends of friends, and you’re ready to tap the general marketplace of craft retailing business. There are periodic craft shows put on by local groups or even by the local parks departments. They cost little or nothing to join and should give you some idea of whether your craft is profitable.

That’s a perfect way to take the plunge into craft retailing business. There are also organized craft shows that tour the country, most of which charge an entrance fee for participants. Check the local papers for information about upcoming shows. You can also put your crafts up for sale at the local flea markets that spring up in every community just about every weekend.

With little cost and some effort

You’ll find out whether there is a market for your craft. Once you know that, you can create other ways to promote and sell your products, such as in galleries, on consignment, on eBay or from your own website.
